about the blog: The Cabinet of Wonders is a repository of bookish marvels. It begins with book reviews. I most especially love speculative fiction, historical fiction, metafiction, books about books, and books by authors who are dead or British or both, but I find myself reading nearly anything and then nattering on about it to the nearest potential listening thing (the bedpost, I have discovered, is not a good listener). This does not, however, mean that I will like nearly anything: au contraire! In addition to telling you what is right and what is wrong about any given book, I also discuss the book trade (I work in a bookstore), libraries (I want to work in a library), examinations of reading and writing, the history of literature, books as elements of culture, and pretty covers omg.

about ontologie: Jo dares disturb the universe. She has an entire closet nook filled with nigh on two hundred books, not to mention a lot of candles and occasionally bread and cheese, and the librarians all know her by name. (So do the employees at the bookstore, but that’s because she works there.) She enjoys all aspects of bookery; films and music which are decidedly off the beaten path; art nouveau; singing murder ballads in the bath; folk music festivals; semi-colons; run-on sentences; extremely odd metaphors; the city; baking; thunderstorms; British and/or nerdy and/or cancelled television shows; public radio; and bread. She has two cats, three wedding gowns, a typewriter, Bela Fleck’s autograph, two hundred books, a computer called Yvaine, and several smashing pairs of boots. Writing gives her an excuse to a) research things that interest her (such as opium, vampires, and early twentieth-century libraries), b) buy pretty blank books, and c) talk to herself a lot.

Jo!!!! This site is awesome…it will very quickly become one of my favorite and most frequented sites…at some point soon, me and my fiance’ will have a website all our own. At first it will mostly just be wedding and registry stuff, but afterwards will be updates, bloggage, pictures, etc…title will be quite plain…brandenandmolly.com but all the same…=o)
    Much love,
    Molly
