and now for something completely different

Published by ontologie at 1:52 pm under administration Edit This

Good evening, ladies & gentlemen of the blogosphere. Welcome to the Cabinet of Wonders, where unimaginable marvels await you (and perhaps cake*). Pressed in these (figurative) pages, you will find examinations of literature, from physical to metaphysical; story, mythology, book-binding, and the Lost Library of Alexandria. Which is to say mostly book reviews: but I also plan to discuss other areas of book culture, whether they be book covers, literary tropes, or the book trade.

I work in a bookstore chain and am aiming towards a degree in library science. I have also been reading voraciously since I was four, to the chagrin of people attempting to get my attention, not to mention people who think I ought to go to bed at a reasonable time.

* The cake is a lie.

Okay really, how do you always get your sites/fanmix covers/etc. to look better than mine?? Your “about” page and introductory post are better than mine too. >_<

Also: yaaaay my first referral! And your footnote is made of total win.

The really sad thing about my book-review blog is that I thought I would keep to short reviews–like, a couple hundred words–and that not only would this force me to be concise for once in my life, it would also encourage me to post often, since short reviews are not very daunting. This didn’t really happen, as you can see. (Also I had a Twilight “review”/link round-up completely written and then I hit post and it got eaten. The today.com site sometimes does that.)

As for other things to do…well, I’d say start with a quick review or maybe a story from the bookstore (ideally you don’t post things you’ve already posted somewhere else…), and then go sign up for the forums and introduce yourself somewhere. There’s some kind of comment-hop thread going, I think, and a “review the blog posted above yours” thread–at least there was when I was new–which is a way to get a few people to read you, anyway. Also visit and comment on more book blogs; you might find some good ones in my book-blog’s blogroll.

And yeah. It’s possible to make an individual blog look good–which I think yours does–but not very easy, especially since they made the universal Today.com theme mandatory. Used to be a lot more like standard Wordpress (if you haven’t noticed–not sure if you’ve used Wordpress–the actual functions and everything of the user control panel are identical to those of Wordpress…but it’s a lot uglier) that way, and they changed it within the last few months.

    Footnote love!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: am very much looking forward to reading you reviews/discussions!
